One of the oldest terrace houses in South Melbourne, built in the 1885. We have found with heritage listed sites, architects and designers will generally contrast modern with the heritage facade. But our client wanted to highlight the beauty of yesteryear. This can prove extremely difficult when renovating because retaining and restoring original features requires great skill and care. For instance the staircase required pain staking restoration due to the many years of use and differing renovations. The plaster corbels and ceiling roses were carefully striped and repaired to unveil the incredible heritage ornate details. The location of the kitchen was moved to the centre living room with the exisiting fire place utilised as the oven and rangehood. The front room was restored to encompass the Victorian era of grandeur, but with the modern convenience of a custom built Murphy bed to act as the guest room. Overall the restoration of this beautiful terrace house provides a calming sanctuary to the hustle and bustle of Melbourne city.
